He knows that before he takes a bowl for himself he is sure that his elders are fed and made comfortable. He knows that knowledge and traditions have been handed down orally and protected by countless generations before him. He knows that our future is in the hands of people just like him and that we are a culture of discipline and fortitude. The young Salish man wears his traditional vest, cedar bark belt, moccasins and hat that remind all that he is mindful of his role as a standard-bearer and care-taker.
